Beckman Oral Motor Protocol

Beckman Oral Motor Assessment and Intervention is a therapy technique that works on:

All of these areas usually develop without any need for therapy. However, when the central nervous system is compromised, these skills do not develop in a timely and orderly manner. A variety of problems such as drooling, tongue thrust, gagging, hypersensitivity, poor tolerance for tooth brushing, poor suck, poor eating, and poor speech may result. The Beckman Oral Motor Protocol provides way to quantify progress in these areas.

PROMPT

PROMPT (Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets) was originally created for working with children with apraxia. Over the years of implementation, clinicians have found it helpful for a variety of speech language disorders such as articulation, non-verbal children, stuttering, hearing impairments, and other disorders.

The PROMPT technique provides tactile, visual and auditory input to reorganize neural pathways for speech production. PROMPT provides the clinician with almost total motor control of peripheral and some proximal articulators through external manipulation.

DIR/Floortime

The DIR/Floortime approach is a comprehensive framework for understanding and treating children challenged by autism spectrum and related disorders. It focuses on helping children master the building blocks of relating, communicating and thinking, rather than on symptoms alone.

DIR/Floortime encourages parents and others important member of the child’s life how to tailor their interactions with him/her, based on where he is currently in his development and to be in tune with individual differences in order to support further development.
